Qatar Sprint Race and Grand Prix Qualifying: Real-Time Updates

Preamble

Philip is arriving soon to guide you through this day's short race (2pm GMT) and qualifying (18:00 GMT).

Real-Time Updates

Starting Lap Time

The warm-up lap has started.

Circuit Details

We have nineteen laps of the longest circuit in Formula 1, the commentator reminds us.

Countdown

The last moments has begun.

Driver Situation

One point in Max Verstappen's favour: his teammate Yuki Tsunoda is in front of him by one place. It's improbable to interfere with Red Bull's lead driver.

Interview Updates

Sky's internal discussion currently: the analyst is at the Mercedes team.

The analyst is looking forward to the 2026 season, speaking with the engineer about his stepping up to the team lead role.

Grid Details

There are only sixteen vehicles on the grid. It was another bad qualifying for the driver: after coming twentieth and final in the previous race, leading to an eighth position in the main race, he did not manage to advance of the first qualifying segment once more on Friday. Ferrari have as a result adjusted to his car configuration and so he will start from the starting area.

The team's Stroll and the Alpine duo of Gasly and Colapinto are all doing likewise.

Driver Comments

"We take the learning for the next day," states Hadjar, 11th on the grid. There will be plenty of learning.

Constructors' Championship

The focus isn't solely on the individual championship: The team have dominated the constructors' gong but the team, with a forty-point advantage over their rivals, will be hoping to seal second place during this event. George Russell can assist in this goal from the front row, and Antonelli will begin immediately after the leader.

Past Performance

Oscar Piastri was victorious then – as he did the previous season, too. McLaren's Australian is attempting a third consecutive win.

Short Race Importance

Alright, just over twenty minutes remaining until the short race begins. Unless something goes wrong, it's greatest value is as a preview of what is to come, rather than significant in its own right, with only eight points available to the winner. However, the runner-up spot here was enough for Verstappen to become champion two years ago.

Max Verstappen claimed the championship after his teammate's accident of the short race.
